It took four shots, but the Trent Excalibur finally brought home a tournament title - and with it a spot in the Challenge Cup.
Trent became the 9th tournament champion to qualify for the 2011 Challenge Cup with a convincing 5-1 championship win over a worn out George Brown Huskies squad. Trent started the day poorly with a tough 5-1 loss to arch-rival Fleming Lindsay, but bounced back to advance to the playoffs with a win over Georgian Owen Sound. From there, the Excalibur got on a roll, defeating #4 Humber-Lakeshore in the quarters, then defeating top rated Seneca-Newnham in semi-finals before vanquishing the Huskies. George Brown entered the tournament on the outside of the wild card race looking in, but four victories and a finals appearance may have been enough to leapfrog them into wild card contention.
The 2011 Challenge Cup will be held March 24th and 25th at Durham College in Oshawa.
