The Fanshawe Falcons have booked a return ticket to the Challenge Cup by defending their title at the 2011 Steve Blundy Memorial Tournament at Sheridan College on November 10th - but not before the hosts almost crashed the party.
Fanshawe put a disappointing Challenge Cup tourney behind them with a solid performance. The Falcons defeated Seneca Tri Campus and Trent to earn a spot in the semis against McMaster, again emerging victorious. Sheridan defeated Humber North and Durham enroute to a semi-final showdown against perennial powerhouse Seneca-Newnham, 2010 and 2011 Challenge Cup finalists. In a rematch of the 2010 Challenge Cup final, the result was the same - a shootout win by Sheridan. The final was a see-saw affair that saw regulation time solve nothing - but this time Sheridan's luck ran out as they fell to the Falcons in a shootout.
With the win, the Falcons have punched a ticket to the 2012 Challenge Cup at Durham on March 22-23 along with the Fleming-Lindsay Auks.
