MAC, REDEEMER AND GEORGE BROWN VICTORIOUS IN JANUARY

January saw three Challenge Series tournaments held in Brockville, London and Toronto - each with a different winner.   Thanks to McMaster, a wild card spot has opened up for the Challenge Cup.

Snowy Brockville was the site of the first tournament of 2012  on January 12 and 13th as 10 teams vied for a spot in the Challenge Cup.   An ice storm resulted in a power outage that affected round robin play, but semi-final action saw  McMaster B defeat St. Lawrence Cornwall and McMaster A defeat Humber-Lakeshore.  McMaster A was declared the winner of an all-Mac final to take the title - and open up a wild card spot for the Challenge Cup.  As a non-OCAA member, McMaster is ineligible for Challenge Cup.

Eight teams traveled to London for the inaugural Fanshawe Invitational on January 27th, including newcomers Redeemer University.  In their first ever extramural appearance,  Redeemer was undefeated in four games, including a 3-2 win over McMaster A in the final to clinch a berth in the Challenge Cup.  On the same day, Seneca hosted its annual tournament, and the George Brown Huskies repeated as champions with a hardfought 2-1 win over Seneca-Newnham in the final.
