The St. Lawrence Cornwall Sharks were determined not to leave North Bay as bridesmaids again this year.
They didn't - and have now become the first team to book a ticket to the 2011 Challenge Cup
After finishing as runners-up to Boreal in the 2009 Canadore Invitiational, SLC found themselves in the final again - this time against Georgian-Orillia. The Sharks left no doubt this time around, jumping to a 3-0 lead which eventually lead to a 4-2 championship win. Check out the full story of SLC's tourney win.
In fact, both Georgian teams fell victim to the Sharks, with Georgian-Barrie feeling their bite in a tough 1-0 semi-final loss. Cornwall defeated U of T Scarborough and Canadore in round robin play.
Orillia had to take the long way to the final and it showed in the last game. After an opening loss to Fleming, Orillia defeated UTS to earn a quarter-final berth, where it narrowly defeated the host Canadore squad 1-0.
That set up a rematch with Fleming in the semis, in which Orillia prevailed, but their 5th game of the day against SLC proved to be too much.
Orillia gets their next shot at qualification when they host the Fall Face-Off on November 19th. SLC next hits the ice when they host the SLC Invitational Dec 5th and 6th.
