CONDORS SOAR TO FALL FACEOFF TITLE

And then there were three.

The Conestoga Condors became the third team to book a spot in the 2011 Challenge Cup with an impressive performance at the inaugural Georgian-Orillia Fall Faceoff on Friday November 19th.  The squad won all four of its games while only giving up two goals enroute to the title.

After defeating Canadore 6-0 and 2010 Challenge Cup champs Sheridan 3-0 in round robin play, the Condors found themselves down 2-1 to Durham before rallying for a 4-2 win in the semi-finals to advance to the final against Georgian-Barrie.   Barrie advanced with a 3-0 win over Seneca King and a come from behind 5-4 shootout win over U of T Mississauga in round robin play before dispatching their archrivals Georgian-Orillia 2-1 on a last second goal in semi-final play.   The final featured end to end action and great chances at both ends before Conestoga scored late in the second to take a 1-0 lead that they managed to hold for the rest of the game to take the championship.

Conestoga joins St. Lawrence Cornwall and Fanshawe as automatic Challenge Cup qualifiers by virtue of their win.  The next Challenge Series tournament takes place at Humber on November 26th with 16 teams participating.  The initial 2010-11 Power Ratings will be released on November 30th.
