DURHAM LORDS OVER HUMBER TOURNEY

Despite being hosts of the 2011 Challenge Cup, Durham knew they had to win a tournament to guarantee a spot in the year end tournament.  Mission accomplished.

Durham became the fourth qualifier for the Challenge Cup by surviving the 16 team marathon that is the annual Humber tournament.   Durham emerged from round robin group play with a perfect 3-0 record thanks to victories over Seneca-Markham, George Brown and Sheridan tournament champions Fanshawe.  Fleming-Lindsay,  Seneca-Newnham and hosts Humber North won each of their groups to advance to the semi-finals, with Durham taking on Humber and Fleming against Seneca.

Durham shut-out the host Humber team to advance to the finals while Seneca eked out a shoot-out win against Fleming to advance.   In the end, Durham proved too strong for the 2010 Challenge Cup finalists as they defeated Seneca Newnham to take the title.

Durham joins St. Lawrence Cornwall, Fanshawe and Conestoga as qualifiers for the 2011 Challenge Cup, which will be held March 24-25 in Oshawa.
