The Canadore Panthers knew they needed to win the Fleming-Lindsay Invitational to qualify for the 2011 Challenge Cup. Mission accomplished.
The Panthers posted a perfect 4-0 record, allowing only two goals the entire tournament, to win the title. They opened the tournament with a 3-0 win over Brockville and a lopsided 6-1 win over Georgian-Barrie to gain a semi-final berth against George Brown. The Huskies and Panthers matched up well early on before a couple of goals gave the Panthers a lead they would not relinquish enroute to a 4-0 win and a final showdown against Trent.
Trent was equally impressive in their run to the finals, with wins over Centennial and St. Lawrence-Cornwall, followed by a semi-final victory over Sheridan. The final was a tough contest between the Excalibur and Panthers, with Canadore eventually finishing on top by a close 2-1 score.
So, with one tournament left before the Challenge Cup, eight teams have booked their ticket, leaving 4 spots up for grabs. The teams and draw for the Challenge Cup will be posted by March 15th.
