SENECA NEWNHAM STINGS TRENT TO WIN SENECA TITLE

Seneca-Newnham booked a ticket to the 2011 Challenge Cup - but not before almost  leaving the Seneca Invitational empty-handed.

The Sting started well with a 6-2 win over Seneca@York but were shocked by Centennial 4-1 in game two.  That put them in a must win game against defending Seneca Invitational champs George Brown who were in the driver's seat with wins over Seneca@York and Centennial.   Not only did the the Sting need a win, but it needed to be by 4 or more goals.   Knowing what they needed to do, they came out buzzing and overran the Huskies 6-0 to gain a spot in the final.  There, they met up with Trent, who advance by virtue of a 3-2 shootout win over Orillia Fall Faceoff champs Conestoga.  In the end, the Sting were not to be denied as they prevailed 6-3, becoming the first tournament host to win their own tournament this year.

With the win, Seneca-Newnham has qualified for the 2011 Challenge Cup, where they were finalists in 2010.
