GEORGIAN-BARRIE TAKES GRIZZLY SHOOTOUT

It took four tries, but Georgian-Barrie finally proved to be an ungracious host, taking the Grizzly Shootout for the first time ever with a 4-0 win over Fleming-Lindsay in the final.  It's the second tourney win of the year for Barrie, with the team looking to add one more at the Challenge Cup.

Twelve teams competed for the title in a tourney that featured four Challenge Series champions.   Upsets started early, with St. Lawrence Brockville knocking off Georgian-Orillia and Humber North falling to Fleming Lindsay in a shootout.  Georgian-Barrie won their first two games by a 3-1 count, taking out St. Lawrence Cornwall and Humber Lakeshore.   This set up a semi-final match up against SLB, which Georgian took 4-0.
In the other semi,  Fleming-Lindsay say a 4-1 lead evaporate to Conestoga late in the third as the Condors scored three to send things to a shootout, but the Auks recovered to win 5-4.

The final saw Georgian-Barrie and Fleming meet for the third time this year, with the series tied at one each.   A see saw affair saw Georgian take a 1-0 lead into the second, where they scored three quick goals late in the period to blow things home and eventually win 4-0.  In the "B" Final, Humber-North triumphed over Georgian-Orillia 5-1.

Nine of the 12 teams in the Shootout have qualified for the Challenge Cup, which will be held March 22-23rd at Durham College in Oshawa.
