HUSKIES RACE TO CHALLENGE CUP TITLE

GEORGE BROWN HUSKIES
2012 Challenge Cup Champions
OSHAWA, Ont. – The George Brown Huskies defeated the Fleming Auks 1-0 in the championship game of the Ontario Colleges Committee on Campus Recreation (OCCCR) Challenge Cup men’s hockey tournament.

The two-day tournament was hosted by Durham College and Your-SA at the Campus Ice Centre in Oshawa, Ont.

Led by head coach Val Pozzan, George Brown won four elimination games on Friday to claim their first OCCCR Challenge Cup title in school history.

In the finals, George Brown goaltender Jesse Scott earned a shutout as he made several big stops down the stretch to shutdown the Fleming offensive attack. Nick Wyman scored the game’s lone goal 5:38 into the first period to put the Huskies up for good. Mike Kowalik and Coulter Somerville picked up assists on the game-winning goal.

George Brown entered the tournament as the second seed, after winning two extramural tournaments during the regular season.
