HAWKS GLIDE TO VICTORY AT HUMBER TOURNEY

The Humber-North Hawks finished one spot out of a wild card spot for the 2011 Challenge Cup.  With a resounding victory at the Humber Invitational on November 25th, they won't be missing out in 2012.

GEORGIAN-BARRIE ROAR TO FALL FACEOFF TITLE

The Georgian-Barrie Grizzlies waited til February to book their ticket to the 2011 Challenge Cup.   Well, the wait is over for 2012.   The Grizzlies ran the table with four wins at the Orillia Fall Faceoff on November 18th to become the third team to qualify for the 2012 Challenge Cup in March.

FALCONS SOAR TO SHERIDAN TITLE

 The Fanshawe Falcons have booked a return ticket to the Challenge Cup by defending their title at the 2011 Steve Blundy Memorial Tournament at Sheridan College on November 10th - but not before the hosts almost crashed the party.

FLEMING AUKS WIN CANADORE INVITATIONAL

 For the past three season, the Fleming Lindsay Auks have had to qualify for the Challenge Cup at the end of the season as a wild card team.  Not so this year. 

The Auks overcame a tourney opening loss at the Canadore Invitational - and their all to familiar spot among tournament penalty leaders -   to reel off four straight wins and emerge as tournament champions - becoming the first team to book a spot in the 2012 Challenge Cup in March.

2011-12 CHALLENGE SERIES SET TO ROLL

Canadore College in North Bay will kick off the 2011-12 Extramural Hockey Challenge Series with an 8 team tourney on November 3rd. The tournament features the 2011 Challenge Cup Champions St. Lawrence Cornwall Sharks, who are also the defending Canadore Invitational champions. 

2011 Challenge Cup semi-finalists Georgian Barrie and 2010 Canadore Invitational finalists Georgian Orillia are back, as are 2011 Challenge Cup qualifiers Fleming-Lindsay and the host Canadore Panthers.  Rounding out the field are two teams from College Boreal and U of T Scarborough.

The Ontario College Extramural Hockey Challenge Series features 12 tournaments between November and March, with winners of each qualifying for the year end Challenge Cup tournament at Durham College in Oshawa, March 22-23, 2012.

SHARK ATTACK PREVAILS AT CHALLENGE CUP


The St. Lawrence College Cornwall men’s hockey team won the first tournament of the season at Canadore  - and wrapped up the year with a triumphant 3-2 overtime victory over No. 1 Seneca to capture the gold medal at the 2011 Challenge Cup on Friday, Mar. 25 at Durham College in Oshawa.

SENECA-NEWNHAM TAKES OVER TOP SPOT

Despite an OT loss in the final of the U of T Scarborough tournament, Seneca-Newnham has taken over top spot in the latest Power Ratings.  Seneca has appeared in the finals of all three tournaments they have entered, winning their own Seneca Invitational, and sport a 9-1-1-3 record.   Durham falls to #2 after a semi-final loss at Conestoga, a tourney at which they went 1-2.

GRIZZLIES ROAR TO SCARBOROUGH TITLE

For the Georgian-Barrie Grizzlies, the third time was a charm - and now they are Challenge Cup bound.

After three consecutive finals appearances, Georgian-Barrie finally won one, emerging from the U of T Scarborough tournament with a nailbiting 2-1 overtime victory over #2 rated Seneca-Newnham to take the crown after surviving a tough road to the finals.

ST. CLAIR CHATHAM TOURNEY CANCELLED

Due to a lack of registrations, the St. Clair-Chatham tournament has been cancelled for Friday February 18th.

The cancellation means that another Wild Card spot has opened up for the Challenge Cup, bringing the total number of available wild cards at this time to 3.

CONDORS CLAIM CONESTOGA CROWN

The Conestoga Condors proved they are no flash in the pan with their second tournament victory of the season - at their own tournament to boot.

DURHAM, SENECA-NEWNHAM TOP LATEST POWER RATINGS

Durham remains atop the Extramural Hockey Power Ratings after 7 of 12 Challenge Series tournaments.  The Lords have yet to play this semester but their 6-0-1-1 record and tournament win at Humber is good enough to maintain top spot.

Seneca-Newnham booked a ticket to the 2011 Challenge Cup - but not before almost  leaving the Seneca Invitational empty-handed.

HUMBER LAKESHORE ROLLS TO BROCKVILLE TITLE

Well, they are the "other guys" no more.

Humber-Lakeshore upstaged their perennial juggernaut arch-rivals Humber-North to win their first ever extramural hockey challenge series event by taking the SLC Brockville Invitational on January 14th.
